Lastly, engaging in bulk transactions can foster stronger relationships with suppliers. Frequent large orders can lead to prioritized customer service and access to better deals or exclusive products in the future, which can be a significant advantage in a competitive marketplace.

Navigating for cooking oil procurement involves understanding the vast selection available and how to choose the right product for your needs. The platform categorizes oils based on type, such as coconut, vegetable, or sunflower oil, which can be used for various cooking methods including dressing, baking, or sautéing.

Buyers can filter options by bottle size, from small ml bottles to larger quantities suitable for bulk purchasing. For those interested in healthier options, sunflower cooking oil is a popular choice due to its low cholesterol content and high Vitamin E levels, which can enhance the immune system.

Different grades of cooking oil , such as refined, virgin, and cold-pressed, each suitable for different cooking applications, are listed. Refined oils are ideal for high heat cooking or deep frying, being high in monounsaturated fats which are known to be heart-healthy.

When selecting oils, buyers should consider the type of cooking they will be doing and the health benefits they wish to gain. The platform's user-friendly interface allows for easy comparison of different oils, helping buyers make informed decisions based on their culinary needs and the benefits each type of oil offers.

When selecting cooking oils in bulk , it's crucial to understand the balance between unhealthy and healthy fats. Oils high in saturated and trans fats are considered less healthy and should be used sparingly.

Conversely, oils rich in unsaturated fats, like monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, are a healthier choice and can contribute positively to heart health. For various cooking methods, different oils are recommended.

High-temperature cooking such as searing, browning, and deep-frying requires oils with a high smoke point to prevent burning and the release of harmful compounds. Oils like canola, peanut, and sunflower are suitable for these methods. Baking, oven cooking, and stir-frying benefit from oils that can withstand moderate heat without losing their nutritional value.

Oils such as olive oil and coconut oil are often recommended for these purposes. For light sautéing, sauces, and low-heat baking, oils with delicate flavors and lower smoke points, like extra virgin olive oil, are ideal.

Lastly, for dressings, dips, and marinades, oils that are flavorful and offer health benefits, such as extra virgin olive oil, are often the go-to choice. It's also important to consider consumption levels and opt for oils that support a balanced diet.

By keeping these key features in mind, buyers can make informed decisions when procuring bulk cooking oils on platforms like Alibaba. Sourcing materials for cooking oils with a focus on sustainability is a critical aspect of production.

Environmentally-friendly options are those that minimize negative effects throughout their lifecycle, from cultivation to distribution. For instance, while some oils are efficient in terms of yield, they're linked to deforestation and biodiversity loss.

However, certified sustainable options can mitigate some environmental impacts. Other oils, despite their health benefits, pose sustainability challenges such as high water usage and significant biodiversity impact. Alternatives like organic, fair-trade or certified sustainable oils can be more sustainable choices.

Innovations in oil production, such as those produced through fermentation, show promise in reducing environmental footprints, requiring significantly less land and water than traditional oils and avoiding tropical deforestation.

Similarly, oils like canola, when sourced organically and expeller-pressed, can reduce the use of harmful chemicals and emissions. Peanut oil stands out as a sustainable option due to peanuts' nitrogen-fixing ability, which rejuvenates the soil, and their deep roots that minimize water needs.

However, the high omega-6 content suggests moderation in use. Sunflower oil, with its low carbon footprint and natural weed suppression, also presents a more sustainable option if used responsibly.

When considering cost efficiency strategies for buyers on Alibaba, it's essential to understand the platform's bulk purchase model. Alibaba is structured primarily for wholesale transactions, offering discounted rates for bulk purchases directly from manufacturers.

This approach can lead to significant savings, especially when procuring items like cooking oil in large quantities. To maximize cost efficiency on Alibaba, buyers should be aware of the minimum order quantities MOQs set by suppliers, which vary across different manufacturers.

Engaging with suppliers who offer the flexibility of purchasing smaller quantities can be beneficial for businesses not ready to commit to large orders.

Another strategy is to utilize Alibaba's Trade Assurance program. While ensuring a secure transaction, it also provides a layer of protection by holding suppliers accountable to the buyer's specific requirements. This can help in avoiding unnecessary costs that may arise from disputes or non-compliant product deliveries.

Buyers should also conduct thorough research to verify supplier legitimacy, which can prevent potential losses due to fraudulent activities. By carefully selecting verified suppliers and negotiating terms, buyers can achieve better pricing and terms, contributing to overall cost efficiency in the procurement process.

However, we only obtained of respondents who answered van Westendorp's four open questions about prices completely. This selection is expected to result in the estimated price range that is derived from individuals who are experienced in buying packaged cooking oil under scarcity. The demographic data of the respondents are illustrated in Table 1.

The respondents who experienced purchasing packaged cooking oil under scarcity were dominated by females as much as The age of the respondents ranged from 21 to 68 years old; on average Therefore, from the age perspective, the respondents can be categorized as adults.

Most of the respondents were relatively well educated, this is shown by Regarding the respondent's household size, most are households with 4 members This is a typical household size in Indonesia which usually consists of parents and 2 children.

Before estimating the acceptable price range in the graph, we calculated the cumulative percentage of van Westendorp's price response VWD1 to VWD4 in Table 2 below:. In VWD 1, we obtained the highest price of packaged cooking oil was , IDR per liter, and the lowest price was 10, IDR per liter.

As much as 0. From the VWD2 column, there are 0. We accumulated Regarding the VWD4, where the price is considered too cheap, the lowest price stated by the respondents was IDR per liter for packaged cooking oil. The highest price recorded in VWD4 was 40, IDR per liter, and only 0. In VWD3, the lowest price obtained was IDR, while the highest price was 50, IDR.

We transformed the elicited data from Table 2 into a graph see Fig. There are 4 lines in a graph crossing each other shaping four points. The acceptable price spanned between point 1 and point 2. The graph shows that the acceptable price range of packaged cooking oil under scarcity was approximately between 15, and 19, IDR per liter.

Referring to Fig. It even got more severe when the price hit its highest level at 27, IDR per liter; relatively far above the acceptable price range.

This acceptable price estimation shows that the packaged cooking oil price under scarcity was unacceptable for the consumers. However, consumers still purchased it at an unacceptable price; this is proven by the second part of our questionnaire which showed that all the respondents had purchased it in the last three months.

Our study shows that under scarcity, consumers are forced to purchase packaged cooking oil relatively far above their acceptable price range, indicating that they have a fair price issue. Furthermore, in this scarcity case, the consumers were confronted with altering prices for the same goods relatively quickly.

Several previous articles discussed fairness and acceptability of prices for consumers resulting from online price discrimination and suggested that regulations are required under such conditions Poort and Borgesius ; Poort and Borgesius Meanwhile, other studies showed that unfair and unacceptable prices tend to lead to negative consumer behavior and response such as discontent, negative recommendations Xia et al.

After finding that the price of packaged cooking oil under scarcity was far above the acceptable range, this study suggests that the government has to maintain the packaged cooking oil price in its acceptable range. Therefore, government intervention in controlling the price is aimed to achieve price affordability for consumers, and consumer staples are frequently subject to price controls Kenton The estimated acceptable range price of packaged cooking oil in this study is relatable with scarcity since it was derived from individuals' responses who had experience in purchasing packaged cooking oil under such a situation.

It was found that the acceptable range price of packaged cooking oil under scarcity was approximately between 15, and 19, IDR per liter; it was the market price range that has to be maintained by the government interventions.

Scarcity was followed by rising prices, which rocketed far above the consumers' acceptable price range. Therefore, it is indicated that consumers might perceive the unfair price of packaged cooking oil during scarcity because they still purchase it at a higher price beyond their acceptable price.

Nevertheless, this study cannot analyze whether the acceptable price under scarcity is different from what it does in a normal situation because it only presents the acceptable range price during scarcity.

Surveying in a normal situation and adding a market variance with the bulk cooking oil consumers may be necessary for future studies. Additionally, the following research to investigate price fairness might be needed to complete this paper's result.
